Tengrinews.kz – The Ministry of Defense of Kyrgyzstan carried out a rescue and evacuation operation for climbers in the area of Pobeda Peak and Khan Tengri, according to 24.kg.
The agency cited information from the relevant ministry.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense, military pilots of the Kyrgyz Air Defense Forces took part in the operation.
It was noted that the weather finally allowed rescue work to resume the previous day. Two Ministry of Defense helicopters made six flights to the epicenter.
A total of 62 rescued climbers, as well as tourists and rescuers, were delivered to the base camps South Inylchek and Polyana.
“30 people — citizens of the UK, China, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Kyrgyzstan — were evacuated from North Inylchek camp. The body of Russian citizen Alexey Ermakov, who died on August 16 near Khan Tengri, was also brought down,” the publication stated.
Some of the injured will be sent to medical facilities in Bishkek for professional care.
As the agency reminded, Russian climber Natalia Nagovitsina was stranded on Pobeda Peak for seven days. Poor weather conditions had prevented the Ministry of Defense from beginning the rescue operation earlier.
