Gulnara Birzhanova, student of Astana Gumilev Eurasian National University, will represent Kazakhstan in the International Miss World Tourism 2012 pageant that will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, on December 16, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Natalya Manylova, national director of Miss World Tourism pageant in Kazakhstan. According to the director, 22-y.o. Birzhanova is doing a designing course at Eurasian National University. She was also the face of one popular magazine. She has never participated in other beauty pageants. Moreover, the student writes her own lyrics and, according to Manylova, she will sing two songs – one in Kazakh and one in Russian at the Miss World Tourism pageant. “We were thinking about the task to represent our country in terms of its national identity and decided to cook baursaks at the contest. In our opinion this is the most delicious dish of our national cuisine that can be cooked very quickly. Moreover, all the necessary ingredients for this dish are available in Thailand. The Kazakhstan beauty will be dressed either in the national dress or in a dress with national ornaments. At present are negotiate this issue with our designers. besides, we will demonstrate a short movie about Kazakhstan,” Manylova said about the preparation prior to the pageant. The Miss World Tourism pageant was held in Malta for the first time in 2000 and was aimed to support and promote Malta tourism. The last pageant was held in Turkey in 2007, when a Moldova representative won Miss World Tourism title. According to Manylova, it was expected that the contest would take place in Kazakhstan in 2008; however, it didn’t happen because the project was too expensive. Thailand decided to host the Miss World Tourism pageant in 2012 after a long break. It was reported that beauties from 60 countries will take part in the pageant. The participants will visit several cities and all main tourist attractions of the country during two weeks prior to the final show of the contest. The main prize of the pageant is $25 000.
