More than 20 thousand people will take part in the official part of the event timed to the People's Unity Day in Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Almaty Department of Culture. The event will start on May 1 at 11 a.m. at the square located at the crossing of Tole-bi and Ablay Khan streets. 700 bikers and 500 cyclists will cross the square to the strains of the brass band. They will be followed by seven groups of ethnocultural associations' representatives. Each group will include three thousand people. The artists from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkey and representatives of Moldavian, Chechen, Armenian and other ethnocultural associations will perform at the event. Festival of national cuisines and exhibition of national applied art will also be held on May 1. Earlier Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev said that People's Unity Day will be celebrated in a new format in 2011. “This will be one of our most important holidays created after our common home-country - Kazakhstan - obtained Independence 20 years ago,” Nazarbayev said.
