Tengrinews.kz - Bagdat Musin, former minister of digitalisation and chairman of telecommunications company Kazakhtelecom, told about his meeting with Pavel Durov, the creator of messenger Telegram.
Musin revealed that they agreed on a direct traffic exchange between their networks, bypassing transit operators.
"I am confident this will not only enhance service quality for our subscribers but also improve the reliability of the service in Kazakhstan. My colleagues, in collaboration with Telegram specialists, have completed the necessary work and established a direct physical connection to Telegram's network. This allows us to transmit data between networks faster and without intermediate operators. We are currently receiving around 19 Gbps of traffic per second from Telegram, and this number is expected to grow. This will improve the Telegram service in homes and offices," Musin promised.
According to Musin, Telegram has over 8 million active users in Kazakhstan, and in 2023, the app became the top downloaded messaging app.
"This direct connection has reduced the data latency to Telegram servers. For example, the latency from Astana to Europe used to be around 85 milliseconds, but it has now decreased to 75 milliseconds. This varies by region. This means users in Kazakhstan can access content and exchange information on Telegram more quickly," he said.
Earlier, Pavel Durov shared his impressions of a recent trip to Kazakhstan.
Pavel Durov revealed that he is the biological father of more than 100 children.
