Russia intends to continue launches of manned spacecraft to the International Space Station from the Baikonur Cosmodrome until 2024, and then move the manned program to the new Vostochny Cosmodrome, Tengrinews reports citing RIA Novosti. The announcement was made by the head of the Russian Space Agency Igor Komarov.

"We plan to carry out manned launches from Baikonur until 2024. It is expected we will work with international partners in the ISS program until 2024 as well," Komarov said.

He added that after 2024, the Russian Vostochny Cosmodrome will see rocket launches with rocket carrier "Soyuz-2", as well as Angara type carriers of medium and heavy class.

Komarov also noted that the situation with the construction of Vostochny Cosmodrome was gradually improving – “payments are transparent and regular, construction schedules are respected better."

The cosmodrome is being built near the village of Uglegorsk in the Amur region in Russia. The first launch of the carrier rocket is scheduled for 2015, the first launch of a manned spacecraft - for 2018. Construction work should be completed before November 30, 2015, but, as it has been widely reported, it is lagging behind. In the meantime, Russia launches all its spacecraft from Baikonur cosmodrome that it is leading from Kazakhstan.
