Tengrinews.kz - The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) could require Google to sell parts of its services, according to DOJ document.

The U.S. Department of Justice may require Google to sell parts of its business, such as Android, Chrome, and Google Play. U.S. authorities believe that such a move would prevent the company from using its services to gain an unfair advantage over search engines. Google is suspected of holding a monopoly in the market, with the DOJ asserting that competitors have little chance against the tech giant.

Additionally, the U.S. company may be required to inform users about other search engines, enabling users to choose the search tool that best suits their needs.

Google stated that the proposed changes "go well beyond the legal scope of the Court’s decision about Search distribution contracts". The corporation is also concerned that few companies would be able to maintain the open-source nature of Chrome and Android, invest in them, and distribute them for free.

Founded in 1998, Google LLC is a multinational corporation under the Alphabet holding company, investing in internet search, cloud computing, and advertising technologies. Google is regarded as one of the "Big Four" tech companies alongside Amazon, Meta, Apple, and Microsoft.

Among Google's services are YouTube, Android, Chrome, Gmail, Google Play, Google Translate, and others.
