Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan plans to launch a national video monitoring system that will provide 24/7 surveillance of public spaces using artificial intelligence (AI).

The announcement was made in the Senate by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Jaslan Madiev.

According to him, the system will be capable of recognizing faces, identifying vehicle license plates, and detecting suspicious activities — such as fights, large gatherings, or unattended objects.

“We understand that ensuring peace, justice, and effective institutions requires the use of modern technologies — particularly artificial intelligence, which helps improve legal services, enhance law enforcement efficiency, and protect citizens’ rights,” Madiev said.

He added that the ministry is working closely with law enforcement agencies to develop and implement these technologies. Among other initiatives, Madiev highlighted an AI-powered legal consultation agent, designed to provide citizens with quick and accurate answers to legal questions, improving access to legal information.

Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that AI-equipped video surveillance systems have already helped authorities detain hundreds of wanted criminals across Kazakhstan.
