Woman appointed Secretary of State in Kazakhstan

Gulshara Abdykalikova has been appointed Secretary of State of Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports.


Gulshara Abdykalikova has been appointed Secretary of State of Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports.

"Appoint Abdykalikova Gulshara Naushayevna Secretary of State of Kazakhstan, dismissing her from the position of Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan," said the decree posted on the website of the President.

The position of Deputy Prime Minister will now be occupied by ex-Akim (Governor) of East Kazakhstan Oblast Berdybek Saparbayev. Daniyal Akhmetov will replace him.

Abdykalykova Gulshara Naushayevna was born in 1965. She graduated from Dzhambul Technological Institute of Consumer Goods and Food Industry with a major in economics. Later, she received a PhD in Economics.

Her career is what one calls successful: starting as an ordinary employee she rose to the position of Advisor to the President. 

After graduation she worked as a senior inspector, head of a department at Kyzylorda Regional Department of Social Protection in 1987-1994. She held various positions in the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection afterwards and eventually became Advisor to the President of Kazakhstan and Chairman of the National Commission on Women, Family and Demographic Policies (January 2008 - March 2009).

She then held the position of the Minister of Labour and Social Protection in March 2009 - September 2012. After that she again was appointed Advisor of the President and in November 2013 became Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.
