Tengrinews.kz – U.S. Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Julie Stufft, spoke about the construction of a new U.S. consulate in Almaty, calling it "a huge project" that highlights the strengthening of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Julie Stufft emphasized the importance of the project for deepening diplomatic ties.

"This is truly a massive project that once again underscores our commitment to diplomatic relations and expands the presence of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Almaty. We already have our embassy in Astana, and our presence in Almaty will be strengthened," said the ambassador.

She mentioned that she plans to visit the construction site next week to see the progress firsthand.

On March 26, 2025, the Mazhilis deputies ratified an agreement with the U.S. to lease a plot of land measuring 70,593 square meters for 49 years to build the diplomatic facility.

The lease payment for the land for the initial 49-year term, and for any subsequent 49-year renewal periods (with no overall duration limit), is set at 25,301,016 dollars, to be paid in a lump sum within 30 calendar days of the agreement coming into effect.
