An image of Kazakhstani Gaukhar Monko has become a symbol of support for Ukraine in the rallies held in England, Tengrinews reports. The author of the touching work is Astana’s resident Sergei Monko.

"After Russia's Security Council approved the deployment of troops into the Crimea, I saw tears in the eyes of my wife ... The idea of maing this image came to me in five minutes,” Sergei Monko said. “The picture, probably, reflected the pain that has accumulated in the hearts of compassionate people. Then I sent the photo to Euromaidan's page on Facebook as a show of support from a Ukrainian-Kazakh family. As some time passed, this photo appeared on the cover photos of many users of social networks and gained a few thousand likes. I did not follow the fate of the photo any further," he continued.

In London, close to Trafalgar Square, several people unfurled banners, flags and collected signatures in support of Ukraine. These are mostly  Ukrainians, who moved to London many years ago. "We are standing here 24 hours a day - take turns to eat, rest,” one of the participants of the rally said, “We do not want the war! That is all we are asking for." Among different posters the picture of Gauhar Monko on a black background clearly stands out. Her eyes steam tears in the colors of the Ukrainian flag – blue and yellow. The slogan on the picture reads "No to War!".

According to the official data of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, 104 people were killed on Maidan in between November 2013 and February 2014. Most of them perished as a result of the armed conflict on February 18-20. Meanwhile, volunteers and doctors say that the number of people killed during the confrontation on Independence Square in Kiev, and the related events, is close to 800.
