Prominent political figures of Kazakhstan have cast their votes in today’s presidential elections, Tengrinews reports.

Prominent political figures of Kazakhstan have cast their votes in today’s presidential elections, Tengrinews reports.

Prime-Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov voted together with his wife at the polling station located at the Russian Drama Theater in Astana at 9 a.m.

Kazakh Senate Speaker Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev voted at the polling station in the lobby of the Congress Hall also in Astana.

“Today we are casting our votes for prosperity and progress of Kazakhstan. There are large-scale tasks ahead of us – Nurly Zhol program and five core institutional reforms. With these programs and reforms put into effect Kazakhstan will no doubt make a huge step forward in its development,” Tokayev told the journalists.

Minister of Defense Imangaly Tasmagambetov voted at the polling station in the Nazarbayev University at 8:30 in the morning.

Mayor of Almaty Akhmetzhan Yessimov voted at the polling station №48 in the Lyceum on Dostyk Street in Almaty. He came early in the morning, 15 minutes after the opening of the polling station.

“In spite of the early morning the voters are very active, I can see this even from this polling station. A lot of people are coming to vote, to make the choice. I think that the people of Kazakhstan will make the right choice,” he said.

Mayor of Astana Adilbek Dzhaksybekov voted at the polling station №81 in lobby of the Palace of Schoolchildren in Astana.

Member of the Majilis, the lower chamber of Kazakhstan’s Parliament, Dariga Nazarbayev also voted at that polling station. She came together with her daughter Venera.

Chairman of KazEnergy Association and Chairman of the Presidium of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan Timur Kulibayev with his family also voted at that polling station in Astana.

Deputy Prime-Minister of Kazakhstan Berdibek Saparbayev and head of the Aerospace Agency of the Ministry for Innovations and Development Talgat Mussabayev also voted there.

Chairman of Astana EXPO 2017 national company Talgat Yermegiyayev voted at the polling station at the Schoolchildren’s Palace along with his wife.

In the first half of the day this polling station also saw two of the presidential candidates cast their votes - Nursultan Nazarbayev, the incumbent President of Kazakhstan, and Abelgazi Kusainov, the self-nominee.

Besides having prominent voters this poling station has prominent observes. A member of Russian Duma, an ex-boxer Nikolay Valuyev is one of them.

The third presidential candidate – Turgun Syzdykov from the Communist Party of Kazakhstan – voted at the polling station №32 at the Public Catering College in Astana. He was one of the first people to vote at the polling station at as early as 7 a.m.. After that he left for Kokshetau city.
