The OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) and Kazakhstan are planning to agree upon and sign a country cooperation program for 2015-2016, Tengrinews reports citing IA Novosti-Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan’s Minister of Economics and Budget Planning Yerbolat Dossayev made the announcement on Monday, June 23, 2014.

Consultations with the OECD delegation were also held on Monday. Marcos Bonturi, Director of OECD Global Relations Secretariat, pointed out that Country Programmes helped countries that were not part of OECD to avail of the organization’s experience and standards. “I hope that this experience will be extended to other Eurasian countries as well,” Bonturi said.

“Country Program is a new instrument through which the OECD cooperates with the countries that are not its members. This year such programs are being developed for the first time and only for four countries… the final draft of the program will be coordinated before the year’s end, when ceremonial signing of the document will take place,” Dossayev said at a briefing.

According to Dossayev, the current draft of Kazakhstan’s country program involves joint initiatives in areas like governance, fiscal policy, competitiveness, improvement of business climate and sustainable development. “The list, perhaps, will be expanded,” the minister said.
