A new Mayor of Kokshetau city in northern Kazakhstan has been appointed, Tengrinews reports citing the press service of the Kokshetau Mayor's Office. The former Mayor of the city Zhomart Nurgaliyev died of a heart attack on October 30, 2014.

Yermek Marzhikpayev became Kokshetau’s mayor under a resolution of the region’s Governor Sergei Kulagin and with the consent of the deputies of the city maslikhat (local government).
Prior to his appointment, Marzhikpayev held a position of a state inspector in the Department of State Control and Organizational Territorial Operations of the Presidential Administration.
Yermek Marzhikpayev was born in Tselinograd (that was later renamed to Astana) in 1969. He graduated from Tselinograd Pedagogical Institute named after Saken Seifullin in 1994. In 2001, he graduated from Turan University with a degree in law. He also has a degree in finance from Kokshetau University (2009).
Throughout his career, he served as Mayor of Arshalyk district of Akmola Oblast, Mayor of Zerenda district of Akmola Oblast, Deputy Governor of Akmola Oblast.
In addition, he was elected deputy of Akmola oblast maslikhat.
Before his career in politics, Marzhikpayev worked as CEO of Bereke-Burabay Hotel in Borovoye resort zone, history teacher and boxing coach.
