Tengrinews.kz – The appearance of a nuclear power plant on Kazakhstan’s energy map will mark the country’s transition to a fundamentally new level of economic development, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.
The President emphasized that the world is currently going through a period of profound transformation and pointed to the strategic importance of the decision to begin construction of a nuclear power plant, noting that it will significantly change Kazakhstan’s energy landscape and reshape the national economy in the long term.
“The construction of the Balkhash nuclear power plant, followed by a second nuclear power plant, will undoubtedly strengthen Kazakhstan’s energy potential and at the same time contribute to the emergence of new competencies in such an important field as nuclear energy. The appearance of nuclear power plants on Kazakhstan’s energy map will mean our country’s transition to a qualitatively new level of economic development,” Tokayev said.
He also noted that large-scale global changes will have a direct impact on the energy sector.
“There is intense competition for energy resources unfolding around the world. We must meet new requirements. The state will need to train a new generation of energy specialists and build up the sector’s capacity,” the President added.
