Nazarbayev voiced Kazakhstan’s position on Syria, Iran, North Korea and Afghanistan

President Nazarbayev has voiced Kazakhstan’s position on Syria, Iran, North Korea and Afghanistan, Tengrinews.kz reports from meeting of Foreign Ministers of CICA member-states. The meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia is taking place in Astana today. “Building of a nuclear weapons free world should be our top priority for the future. We believe that complete liquidation of North Korea’s nuclear program should be discussed through hexalateral negotiations. “What concerns Iran’s nuclear program, I would like to emphasize our position here once again: we believe that a solution to this problem is possible only through diplomatic methods. “This forum is taking place at the time when it is very relevant for the whole planet: a global transformation of world order has begun. The serious disturbances in the Middle East, North Africa are bright examples of this. “Kazakhstan has repeatedly declared its support of a peaceful settlement of the crisis situations in Syria. We are convinced that the future of this country is in the hands of the Syrian people alone, and this means that the sides should come to the negotiating table,” President of Kazakhstan said. Speaking about resolution of Afghanistan’s problems, Nazarbayev reminded of the aid that is being rendered by Kazakhstan to this county. “We are educating Afghan young people in Kazakhstan’s universities, supplying humanitarian cargos, funding construction of socially-significant facilities, working on expansion of transport infrastructure for complete integration of Afghanistan into the regional transport system,” Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan said. Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) is an inter-governmental forum for enhancing cooperation towards promoting peace, security and stability in Asia. It is a forum based on the recognition that there is close link between peace, security and stability in Asia and in the rest of the world. The idea of convening the CICA was first proposed by Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev on 5 October 1992, at the 47th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
