Nazarbayev speaks up for renewal of the Agreement on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between Kazakhstan and Russia

Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev speaks in favor of renewing the Agreement on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between Kazakhstan and Russia, President’s Press Service reported April 25. According to the Press Service, April 25 President Nazarbayev met Sergei Naryshkin, Head of the Russia’s State Duma. President Nazarbayev congratulated him on being elected State Duma Speaker, emphasizing that the two parliaments play a crucial role in integration of the two nations. “In May the milestone Agreement on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between Kazakhstan and Russia will turn 20 years old. Many provisions of the document have been brought to life. Given some new vectors of cooperation between the two nations, as well as the current global environment, the Agreement needs some renewal. Latest integration efforts such as the Customs Union, the Common Economic Space call for new goals and tasks”, the Press Service quotes President Nazarbayev as saying. “We appreciate cooperation between the two nations in all the current realms. Tangible results for common people are of great importance. At the talks we broached the subject of the Customs Union, the Common Economic Space and the would-be Eurasian Economic Union. Besides, we dwelt on the parliament dimension of the integration efforts”, Mr. Naryshkin said following the talks.
