President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has been awarded the Silk Road Peace Prize during his official visit to China that started yesterday, a Tengrinews journalist reports from Shanghai.

The President of Kazakhstan received the award after meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The award marked his contribution into strengthening of mutual trust and friendship, promotion of peace and regional stability.

China created the Silk Road Award committee only this March. There are three kinds of Silk Road awards: the Peace Prize, the Humanitarian Cooperation Prize and the Outstanding Diplomacy Prize. The former is the most prestigious of the three.

President Nazarbayev has become the first and only awardee of the conspicuous prize. The Silk Road Humanitarian Cooperation Prize - the second most prestigious award - has been awarded to seven people so far.

Yesterday Kazakhstan and China signed five bilateral energy and investment agreements, and kick-started construction of a new logistics terminal at the Pacific Ocean port of Lianyungang. Besides, President Nazarbayev had talks with his Chinese counterpart and heads of several major Chinese companies.

Continuing his state visit to China, President Nazarbayev is going to attend the IV Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA). The over-20-member international organization focuses on ensuring peace in the region.
