Kazakh leader Nursultan Nazarbayev believes that combating terrorism effectively will only become possible with creation of an international network under the auspices of the United Nations, Tengrinews reports citing Nazarbayev as saying at the 15th summit of the SCO Council of Heads of States that was held in Ufa, Russia on July 9.

“Kazakhstan is ready to continue cooperation with other countries in addressing the most acute problems of our time. One of them is terrorism. (…) The only way we can effectively combat it is through creation of a global network under the auspices of the United Nations. I would like to support what Mister Ghani (President of Afghanistan) and Mister Rouhani (Iran’s President) said today. We must raise this issue at the 70th session of the UN General Assembly in order to create a global network aimed at fighting this evil and uprooting it, including its financial sources and others aspects. This is a threat to the whole world, but primarily to our region,” Nazarbayev addressed the participants of the summit.

The SCO and BRICS summits held in Ufa demonstrate an active participation of their member-states in global processes, Nazarbayev said. “Amid emergence of a multipolar world, global challenges and threats as well as increasing interdependence of countries and regions on the new agenda, unions like the Eurasian Economic Union, SCO and BRICS play a bigger role. Horizontal and vertical transport arteries provide great growth opportunities. Global financial economic crisis was a huge lesson for all of us. As Ms. Rousseff (Brazilian President) said, it (crisis) started with Lehman Brothers and the most developed country in the world and we are still overcoming the consequences. Its (crisis') value lies in the fact that the international community has learnt one lesson - elimination of the deep problems and defects and inequality is impossible without joint efforts," Nursultan Nazarbayev concluded.
