Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev met with the global coordinator of the Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament (PNND) Alyn Ware, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the President’s press-service. The meeting covered international cooperation in nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. “Your operations are in full accord with my vision of the nuclear-free world. I am ready to take part in this process and make certain practical steps in this direction. At the UN General Assembly I made a suggestion to create conditions for the nuclear-free world, including adoption of the Nuclear-Free World Declaration. The UN announced August 29, the day of closure of Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site, the International Day against Nuclear Tests. It is important that we develop cooperation with the organization that you are heading,” Nazarbayev said. “Mister President, please let me express my personal gratitude, support and respect for the steps you undertook to make Kazakhstan a respectful and progressive member of the international community, as well as for those measures that the country implements at the global level to facilitate creation of the world free from nuclear weapons,” Ware said. Meanwhile, at the briefing for journalists Ware noted that the meeting also covered practical actions aimed for creation of the nuclear-free world. “We discussed the measures suggested and implemented by President Nursultan Nazarbayev that have a huge meaning for nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. These actions include closing the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site, where over 400 nuclear explosions were made in the Soviet time, giving up the nuclear arsenal inherited from the Soviet Union, initiating creation of the Central Asian zone free from nuclear weapons, making August 29 the International Day against Nuclear Tests and the suggestion made by the President at the international nuclear forum to adopt the Nuclear-Free World Declaration. We highly appreciate Nursultan Nazarbayev’s leadership in the global nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. Our organization supports all the initiatives of Kazakhstan President in this realm. In our cooperation with Kazakhstan we stand for termination of nuclear tests and creation of the nuclear-free world,” the global coordinator said.
