Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev has had a phone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss the outcomes of the Norman Talks in Minsk, Belarus, Tengrinews reports citing the press service of Akorda.
Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev has had a phone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss the outcomes of the Norman Talks in Minsk, Belarus, Tengrinews reports citing the press service of Akorda.
On February 11-12, the Norman talks involving leaders of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France were held to resolve the crisis in the east of Ukraine.
The important outcome of the 16-hour negotiations was a declaration, which required a cease-fire starting from February 15, withdrawal of all heavy weapons at equal distances of 50 km and more, creation of a 70 km security zone, exchange of hostages and illegally detained individuals based on the "all for all" principle.
During a phone conversation initiated by the German side, President Nazarbayev marked a considerable contribution of the German Chancellor to the successful completion of the Minsk meeting.
Angela Merkel emphasized the importance of the Kazakh President’s efforts facilitating the peace talks aimed at settling the Ukrainian crisis. In addition, Merkel asked Nazarbayev to continue this considerable work pointing out the possibility of a Norman meeting in Astana.
Nazarbayev and Merkel expressed hope that the efforts of all the parties to arrange the peace talks would contribute to the settlement of the crisis in Ukraine. The two sides also noted the high level of the Kazakh-German cooperation.
