President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev called onto the government to make decisions quicker and adequately respond to the global economic changes and challenges, but at the same time to prioritise social well-being of the population, Tengrinews reports from the joint session of the Parliament that took place today, September 2, in Astana.
The President said there was a need for an active and synchronized work of all the government institutions. “All of us – I myself, the Government, the Presidential Administration, and all the executive bodies – are working hard every day,” he said.
“Therefore, I appeal to you to consider reducing the duration of the Parliament's summer vacations and rest periods throughout the year. As it is common in other parliaments of the world. (…) This way MP would work smoothly and at the same pace with all the governmental bodies for the benefit of the nation,” the President continued.
“Today, we are facing difficult tasks. We cannot linger in decision-making. Literally, troubles come on the heels and we can feel them. Time flies and requires that we speed up our actions," Nazarbayev said.
"Today it is necessary to shape economic policies taking into account the risks stemming from geopolitical changes. (...) It is crucial to maintain the achieved level of development and prevent a possible downfall in production or deterioration of the population's social well-being. This is also a task for local government offices of all levels."
“Anti-Russian sanctions and Russian sanctions against the West, all affects us. In the Customs Union, in the Single Economic Union [Eurasian Economic Union] that will come to be, we will feel this pressure because these are our main trade partners," the President said.
He stressed the need to be prepared for various kinds of developments and promised to consult the MPs and move forward together.
"I believe there is nothing terrible awaiting us. We have our stability and opportunities, and appropriate reserves. We prefer to use them for different purposes (other than anti-crisis stabilisation measures) but if need be, they will be channeled into maintaining the social conditions in the country at an appropriate level," Nazarbayev declared.
Following my instruction the government is already working on a series of measures based on both optimistic and pessimistic economic scenarios. We already have a clear plan of how we are going to be ensuring economic security of our country. The government has been instructed not to cut the funding of social obligations of the state under any of the scenarios. This is very important! We have all the necessary resources to ensure stable prosperity of the people," Nazarbayev stressed.
