A Kazakh delegation led by the Minister of Energy Vladimir Shkolnik has met a Dutch delegation led by Minister Henk Kamp in Astana on November 26 to discuss cooperation in developing alternative energy, Tengrinews reports.

Shkolnik reminded that in the past 2.5-3 years Kazakhstan had set up a full cycle production of solar panels - from mining and processing of quartz to manufacturing of the ready products.

The next step is to expand the solar energy in Kazakhstan.

"An ambitious goal to bring the development of solar energy in Kazakhstan to the scale of the uranium industry has been set. This is what we are working on," Shkolnik said after the meeting with the Dutch Minister.

"Now we are working closely with Dutch ECN that is one of the world leaders in the development of technologies transforming solar energy into electricity. We intend to work together in the Middle East, including Qatar. Now we are working on a serious project - dozens of gigawatts. We will be supplying it with the appropriate technology and solar panels," he said.

The Dutch Minister, on his part, noted that the Netherlands would be happy to share their experiences in development of solar energy with Kazakhstan.

"50 percent of solar panels used in the world are made with the use of Dutch technologies. The process of solar energy development in Kazakhstan is going at a high pace,” he said adding that Kazakhstan has a good potential in the area.
