Public authorities have disclosed the details of Kazakhstani-Mexican cooperation, Tengrinews reports.

Kazakhstan established diplomatic relations with Mexico back in 1992. But after that Kazakhstan and Mexico were not developing bilateral ties very intensively and two countries are planning to exchange embassies only now.

Currently, Martha Elena Barcena Coqui is Mexican Ambassador to Kazakhstan, and, concurrently, to Georgia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan. The Embassy is located in Ankara, Turkey, but later in 2014 Mexican Embassy will be opened in Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan and Mexico have huge prospects for establishing strong mutual relations in different areas.

According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Mexico has maxed at $121.4 million, with Kazakhstan’s export making only $171 thousand of the amount. Kazakhstan mostly imports metal pipes, electric motors and generators, medical devices, air and vacuum pumps, cars, molybdenum and lead ores.

Kazakhstan and Mexico have not established strong collaboration in tourism either yet. For example, in 2012, only 30 Kazakhstanis visited Mexico, and 51 Mexicans visited Kazakhstan. The reason for such low numbers from Kazakhstani side may lie in the fact that Kazakhstanis have to use the services of Mexican Embassy in Moscow to get tourist visas. The upcoming opening of the Mexican Embassy in Kazakhstan will enable Kazakhstanis to get visas directly.

In 2013, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and Mexico's President Enrique Pena Nieto met within the 12th session of the Boao Economic Forum to discuss potential of bilateral cooperation in tourism, oil and agriculture.
