Famous Kazakhstan political expert Nurlan Yerimbetov criticized the recent statement of Kazakhstan Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov who thanked the author of the scandalous movie about pseudo-Kazakh journalist Borat for the tourist flow to Kazakhstan. “Honestly, I thought in the beginning that these were the intrigues of the Foreign Ministry’s enemies. When I heard this speech of Mr. Kazykhanov on TV, I got scared. It is scary when we get dragged through the mud, but when a state official of such a rank, a Minister, thanks for such disgrace, this is even worse,” Kursiv cited the political expert as saying. “It is most shameful that MPs kept silent when Foreign Minister made this jest in front of them. If I were there, I would have thrown my shoe at Mr. Kazykhanov, not to offend or humiliate him, but because this fact of shoe throwing would have generated even more mentions of Kazakhstan in the world media. And maybe it would have attracted crowds of tourists to Kazakhstan who would come to see the country where shoes are thrown at ministers during the main legislative assemblies,” Megapolis quoted Yerimbetov.
