Kazakhstan welcomed the final results of the presidential elections in Afghanistan that saw Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai elected the country's President and Abdullah Abdullah get a right to nominate the head of the Cabinet and key members of the government along with the president and supervise the work of the executive branch of the government.

“This election marked the first peaceful transition of power in the country and became an important step on the path of independent Afghanistan towards democracy," the statement said.

Kazakhstan shared the international community's satisfaction with the decision of the Afghan people to move forward and build a stable state and society in spite of the political and economic difficulties. "We highly value the desire of the people to restore their statehood despite the threats to country’s national security and the lives of many Afghanis. We hope that National Unity Government will effectively use the mandate granted by the Afghan people to introduce crucial reforms aimed at improving the well-being of the citizens of Afghanistan, and that the president of the country will be the guarantor of the Constitution for the benefit of all the Afghan people who advocate peaceful state-building and social progress," the Kazakh statement said.

The Kazakh Foreign Ministry stressed that Kazakhstan repeatedly reaffirmed its support to maintaining a peaceful environment for a broad national dialogue for reconciliation, establishing a lasting negotiating process between the various political forces and public organizations in Afghanistan. "As a regional neighbour and responsible international partner, Kazakhstan is interested in development of Afghanistan into a friendly and sustainably developing peaceful state for the sake of cooperation and prosperity of the entire region," the statement said.
