But it is not yet known when Ambassador Krol will get the new appointment and move to Kazakhstan.

On September 11, 2013 U.S. Ambassador Kenneth Fairfax completed his tenure in Kazakhstan. John Ordway returned to Kazakhstan in October and took over as a temporary chief of the mission. Fairfax was appointment Deputy Executive Director of the International Energy Agency.

While in his current Ambassador position Mr. Krol caused some controversy in Uzbekistan calling the Great Patriotic War a mere “conflict”. “The conflict that ended 67 years ago brought together many peoples and countries as allies in a common cause including the people of Uzbekistan and the United States of America,” he said.

Commenting on Uzbek democracy Mr. Krol said: “We'd like to expose more Uzbeks to how democracy works in America although we recognize democracy may develop and look differently in Uzbekistan”.

Mr. Krol was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1956. He got his Bachelor’s degree in History at Harvard University and then received both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Philosophy, Politics and Economics in Oxford University.

During his diplomatic carrier he worked in India, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.
