Tengrinews.kz - The head of state held talks with German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz in an extended format, according to a statement from Akorda.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Olaf Scholz conducted the negotiations with the participation of members of the official delegations.
The President emphasized the special importance of the Chancellor’s first official visit to Kazakhstan and expressed confidence that today's meeting would elevate the multifaceted cooperation between Kazakhstan and Germany to a new level.
"We discussed prospects for strengthening bilateral relations, with a particular focus on trade, economic, and investment integration. We also exchanged views on international issues such as geopolitics, security, regional development, and climate change. We reviewed our cooperation in international organizations. I am convinced that these negotiations will contribute to the expansion of our contacts," noted Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The Head of State noted that Germany is one of Kazakhstan's key trading partners and is among the leading investors in our economy.
"Last year, bilateral trade turnover grew almost 1.5 times to around 4 billion dollars. The positive trend continues this year — in the first seven months, trade volume exceeded 2.3 billion dollars. Since 2005, direct investments from Germany have reached 6.7 billion dollars, with 90% allocated to the non-extractive sector. More than a thousand companies with German capital operate in Kazakhstan," the President emphasized.
The Federal Chancellor of Germany thanked Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the hospitality extended to him on Kazakh soil and noted the dynamic development of bilateral relations.
"We aim to improve the conditions for economic relations, stimulate direct investments, and expand trade opportunities. We also want to develop cooperation in all areas. I am pleased that our collaboration in energy is advancing successfully, serving as an example for the world. We also discussed important international challenges we face," noted Olaf Scholz.
The parties confirmed their interest in enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation, especially in energy, green transformation, mining, transportation, logistics, climate protection, ecology, and agriculture. They also discussed prospects for strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties between Kazakhstan and Germany.
