Senator Gani Kassymov asked to lower the barrier for parties to enter the parliament from 7 to 3 percent, Tengrinews.kz reports. The Senator made the request to the chairman of the Central Election Commission Kuandyk Turgankulov at the plenary meeting of the upper chamber of parliament on November 24. “Prior to coming election campaign for the seats in Majilis I am asking you to once again review the Elections Law with the government. In the part of decreasing 7-percent barrier to 3 percent for all the parties,” Gani Kassymov said. Besides, the Senator suggested to introduce restrictions on ‘voluntary dissolution’ term. “Practice shows that this is the fourth time that one of the chambers dissolves itself. There is a clear mistake in the Elections Law. That’s why there should be some kind of restrictions, legal barriers for self-dissolution of both chambers,” Kassymov said. He asked Turgankulov to reply immediately, prior to the start of the election campaign.
