During the visit, he discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, in which the topic of regional security was of paramount importance. Other issues on the agenda were strengthening cooperation in the framework of international organizations, such as the UN, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Eurasian Economic Union. They also spoke about developing trade and economic, investment, financial, cultural and humanitarian ties.
Welcoming Xi Jingping, the Kazakh President pointed out that the Chinese leader was the first foreign head of state to visit Kazakhstan after the inauguration of President Nazarbayev.
"You are the first head of state to visit Kazakhstan after the presidential elections in our country. Thereby you confirm the high status, the special importance of our relationship. You called me on the phone, congratulated me, sent me a telegram and now have come for negotiations. I am very grateful and we very much appreciate this," said the President of Kazakhstan.
Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that maintaining good neighborly relations with China was a priority of Kazakhstan's foreign policy, and over the years a significant transformation of the bilateral cooperation had been achieved. He said that there were all the necessary conditions to further develop relations between the countries in the best interests of the two.
Chinese President thanked Nursultan Nazarbayev for the warm reception and congratulated him on being re-elected. He said that Nursultan Nazarbayev was his great friend and he was very happy to see him.
“I am confident that under your leadership the people of Kazakhstan will unite and make joint efforts to achieve new brilliant achievements in state building and national revival,” the Chinese General Secretary said.
He also stressed that in the recent years, the Kazakh-Chinese strategic partnership was moving forward at an accelerated pace.
“We are ready to make every effort together with the Kazakh side to increase mutual support on key issues of mutual interest. China intends to comprehensively deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of security, economic and humanitarian spheres, as well as to strengthen coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs for the benefit of our peoples,” Xi said.
China “firmly supports the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Kazakhstan," he declared.
The President of Kazakhstan gratefully accepted the invitation of Xi Jinping to visit China on September 2-3 this year and take part in the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the WWII in Beijing.
During the meeting, the leaders stressed that the peoples of Kazakhstan and China were united in respecting the memory of the Great Victory over fascism, passing it from generation to generation, which thereby serves as a reliable guarantee against new wars.
