Washington considers Kazakhstan its friend, as well as the safest place in the world, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the United States Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel Poneman, who has read Barack Obama's message at the International Nuclear-Free World Forum in Astana.

“I highly appreciate the historical decision of Kazakhstan and President Nazarbayev that laid the foundation for further reduction of the nuclear threat and efforts on nonproliferation of nuclear weapons. Today's event is reminding us that the goal of stopping nuclear tests has to remain the highest priority for the international community. In the past 20 years the U.S. and Kazakhstan have been working together to reduce and completely eliminate biological weapons. Our partnership is an evidence of what we can reach through a joint effort, sharing responsibilities and facing challenges together. For a long time Kazakhstan has been a leader in nonproliferation of nuclear weapons and a friend of the United States,” Poneman read the words of the US President and added: “Choosing to give up nuclear weapons, Kazakhstan has become the safest place in the world. Speaking on behalf of the United States and the people of the whole world I would like to thank you for your leadership and your vision.”
