Adilbek Dzhaksybekov has been appointed the Mayor of Kazakhstan’s capital Astana, Tengrinews reports citing the press-service of Akorda. He replaced Imangali Tasmagambetov as the capital’s Mayor. Imangali Tasmagambetov has been appointed Minister of Defence.
Today, Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev introduced the new Astana Mayor to the city administration’s staff.
Head of the Presidential Administration Nurlan Nigmatulin was appointed acting Secretary of State.
With the new appointment Adilbek Dzhaksybekov was released from the position of acting Secretary of the Security Council and was replaced by Vice-Secretary of the Security Council Azamat Abdymomunov in the position.
Before the new appointment, Adilbek Dzhaksybekov served as Kazakhstan’s State Secretary since April of this year.
He was born in 1954 in Kostanai Oblast in Kazakhstan’s north. Adilbek Dzhaksybekov graduated from the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow with a degree in Economics. Later, he graduated from Plekhanov Russian Academy of Economics with a major in logistics. He holds a Ph.D in Economics.
In 1995, Dzhaksybekov was elected Senator of the Kazakhstan Parliament’s upper chamber. A year later, he was appointed First Deputy Governor of Akmola Oblast.
Adilbek Dzhaksybekov served as the Mayor of Astana from 1997 till 2003, whereupon he became Kazakhstan’s Minister of Industry and Trade.
He led the Presidential Administration from 2004 till 2008. In 2008-2009, Dzhaksybekov served as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to the Russia.
Before his appointment as Kazakhstan’s State Secretary in 2014, he was Kazakhstan’s Minister of Defence.
In addition, Adilbek Dzhaksybekov is the President of Kazakhstan’s Football Federation.
