The UNESCO has included the art of Kazakh dombra kuy and traditional knowledge and skills in Kazakh and Kyrgyz yurt into the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Tengrinews reports citing the website of the organization.
The press release of the organization calls the yurt “a symbol of family and traditional hospitality, fundamental to the identity of the Kazakh and Kyrgyz peoples." It was submitted for inclusion into the List after passing all the necessary qualifications.

The other symbol of Kazakh culture added to the List was the kuy, a traditional Kazakh music form, performed solo on a dombra. The UNESCO says it “plays an important role in strengthening social cohesion among Kazakh people while providing them with a sense of identity and belonging.”

Committee meeting held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris ends on November 28. Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity includes elements indicating the diversity of intangible heritage and promoting awareness of its importance for the whole of mankind.
