Tengrinews.kz – WhatsApp will soon introduce three new features for the “Updates” tab, which includes the “Statuses” and “Channels” sections, according to a post on the official WhatsApp blog.
The updates will include:
- Paid subscriptions for channels;
- Channel promotion in the directory;
- Advertising in statuses.
To show ads, WhatsApp will use limited user data, such as country or city, language, channels the user is subscribed to, and their interaction with ads. Data from other Meta accounts may also be used.
Personal calls, messages, and group chats will not be affected by these changes, and this information will not be used for advertising.
“If you use WhatsApp only to communicate with friends and family, nothing will change for you,” the message says.
The launch date for these features has not been announced, but the blog states they will be available “very soon.”
