Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstanis conquered the highest volcano and the highest peak in South America.
Kazakhstani climbers Raimbek Zhangozin and Gulzhan Kudebaeva successfully climbed two iconic peaks in South America: Ojos del Salado volcano (6893 meters) in Chile and Mount Aconcagua (6962 meters) in Argentina. These difficult ascents became part of their preparation for the upcoming expedition to Everest in 2026 and the "Seven Summits" and "Seven Volcanoes" programs.
A 37-year-old businessman from Atyrau, Raimbek, wrote to our editorial WhatsApp number and said that he has been mountaineering for the past four years.
"I started mountaineering after a trip to the base camp of Mount Everest (5364 meters). After that, there were such peaks as Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe (5642 meters), Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa (5895 meters), Bonete, which is located in the Andes (5100 meters), and other five-thousanders.
The idea to climb the highest volcano in the world, Ojos del Salado (6893 meters), and the highest peak in South America, Aconcagua (6962 meters), came after the decision to go to the peak of Everest (8848 meters) in 2026 and participate in the ‘Seven Summits’ and ‘Seven Volcanoes’ programs," he shared.

The idea to climb Ojos del Salado and Aconcagua came about after last year's failed attempt to climb Aconcagua. Then, extreme weather forced the team to turn around at 6300 meters. This time, the climbers used a different tactic.
"This year we decided to try to climb this mountain again, but this time we did a combined climb. We chose Ojos del Salado as our first mountain, so that we could properly acclimatize there and try to run up Mount Aconcagua in this condition. The plan worked. We successfully climbed both mountains, along the way reaching another ‘six-thousander’ in Chile - Barrancas Blancas (6119 meters). The total expedition to the two mountains took exactly 1 month.
We were accompanied by the legendary mountaineer Valentyn Sypavin, who climbed to the top of the world, Everest, as many as 7 times. Both mountains turned out to be and are difficult, protracted and capricious. These are constant steep climbs and constant strong wind. According to the guides, only 30 percent of climbers climb these peaks," said Raimbek.

During the ascent of Aconcagua, Anar Burasheva, the first Kazakh woman to conquer Everest, was part of the team.
"The assault on Mount Ojos del Salado took 14.5 hours, while we spent 10.5 hours on Mount Aconcagua. The expedition to Ojos del Salado consisted of 9 participants who represented 5 countries (Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Moldova and the USA). 6 of them successfully reached the summit. We were already going to Aconcagua as a team of 5 climbers. Everyone safely reached the summit," he shared.

Raimbek said that he met Miguel Doura, the owner of the highest art gallery in the world, located at an altitude of 4300 meters in the Plaza de Mulas base camp. In memory of the meeting, the artist presented the Kazakhstani with a painting.
