American USA Today has named Kazakhstan's star boxer Gennady Golovkin the most talked-about Kazakh since Borat. According to the newspaper, Golovking has had only four bouts in the United States, but has already attracted a lot of attention of the local audience and media. "In a little more than a year, the former Olympic silver medalist with the big smile and the bigger punch has become one of America's best, most popular and fun-to-watch boxers," the newspaper writes. Gennady Golovkin, 31, the current WBA world champion, has been successfully fighting at the professional ring since his debut as a professional in 2006. He has 28 victories out of his 28 fights and ended 25 of them with a KO. The unbeaten boxer from Kazakhstan won over American boxer Curtis Stevens in his last fight on November 2. His next fight is scheduled on February 1 in Monte Carlo. Gennady was born on April 8, 1982 in Karaganda, a coal-mining city in central Kazakhstan. His father is an ethnic Russian and his mother is an ethnic Korean. "My father is Russian and my mother is Korean, but when I'm asked who I am, I always tell I'm Kazakh and I consider myself as Kazakh," Gennady said during his speech at the 20th Assembly of Kazakhstan Nationalities on April 24, 2013 in Astana.
