What is Maslenitsa?
Maslenitsa is a traditional Slavic holiday, widely celebrated in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and other Slavic countries, marking the end of winter and the arrival of spring. Often referred to as "Butter Week," the holiday is celebrated with a series of festive activities, including the cooking and eating of crepes (symbolizing the sun), singing, dancing, and the burning of a straw effigy to symbolize the departure of winter. The holiday is typically a time for family gatherings, outdoor activities, and plenty of food and fun.
