Tengrinews.kz – WhatsApp has introduced several new features aimed at improving user safety and convenience. Among them are a warning when sharing your screen with an unknown contact and updated tools for managing chats.

Protection against scammers

WhatsApp developers have launched a new feature to help reduce scam cases involving screen sharing. Now, if a user starts sharing their screen with someone who is not in their contact list, the app will display a warning and offer a quick option to cancel.

"We are always working to protect users from fraudulent schemes. If you begin sharing your screen with an unknown contact, WhatsApp will show a warning and allow you to easily stop the session," the developers said.

This measure is designed to prevent situations where scammers gain access to personal data, banking apps, or sensitive information under the guise of “helping” to configure a device.

New storage-cleaning options

In the latest WhatsApp beta for Android (2.25.34.5), users gained an improved chat-cleaning interface. You can now more flexibly manage your storage — deleting all messages, only media files, or specific categories like videos, photos, documents, audio, or stickers.

Before deleting, the app will show a new confirmation screen, allowing users to choose whether to erase starred messages. This helps avoid accidental deletion of important information.

The company says the update makes chat cleanup simpler and clearer:

"We want to give users more control over what data stays on their device and what can be deleted without affecting important messages," the blog post says.

The feature is currently available to a limited group of beta testers and will roll out to more Android users in the coming weeks.

Quick way to report issues

Another feature under testing is a faster way to report technical problems. In WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.34.6, a new Shake-to-Report option has appeared: simply shake your phone to open the error-report form.

After shaking, the app asks for confirmation and automatically takes a screenshot to include in the report. WhatsApp notes that screenshots are not taken in private sections — for example, when viewing profiles — to protect users’ privacy.

The feature can be disabled in settings. Developers say the new system will help detect bugs more quickly and improve overall stability.

"We want users to be able to report problems as easily as possible. This speeds up bug fixes and helps us improve WhatsApp," the company said.

Alongside new features for Android, WhatsApp is also expanding tools on other platforms. Recently, the Mac and Web versions received Media Hub — a convenient section for viewing recent photos, videos, and documents shared in chats. A future update is expected to introduce username reservation, allowing people to secure the same nickname they use on Instagram or Facebook.
