Two English travelers, a writer Jamie Maddison and an entrepreneur Matthew Traver, have decided to ride horses from Ust-Kamenogorsk to Tashkent, Tengrinews.kz reports. The two friends are currently in Almaty and will take a train to Ust-Kamenogorsk on May 30. Upon arrival they will buy three local horses (two for them to ride and one for their belongings) and will move towards the mountain ridge at the border of Kazakhstan and China. After enjoying the nature of the Dzungarian Alatau, the travelers will ride to Shymkent, passing Almaty once again. The plan to sell the horses in Shymkent and walk to Tashkent, Uzbekistan. If things go well, the travelers will maybe even continue to Tajikistan. Their trip will last for the total of four months. “We would like to repeat the route of Sir Charles Horward-Bury that we traveled 100 years ago. The idea of the trip emerged 3 years ago when we came to Kyrgyzstan. We like Central Asian culture, it is so diverse. It is interesting to learn local traditions and the nature is very beautiful,” the travelers said. Maddisov and Traver we bring only the most necessary things: a tent, warm clothes, solar charges for cameras, flash lights, mobile phones, food and medicines. They will be buying food along the way and hope that people they meet on the way will help them if they run out of supplies or lose the way. The travelers plan to spend $10 per person a day.
