Winners at the 86th Academy Awards03 march 2014, 13:12
The entertainment world was preened and primed Sunday for the most fiercely contested Oscars show in decades, with three movies leading an impressive field for Hollywood's most highly coveted prizes.
After months of drought, a huge storm hit just in time for the Academy Awards, drenching the famous red carpet where A-listers will strut their stuff as Tinseltown's annual awards season comes to a climax, though the rain was expected to ease off into the evening.
The 86th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honored the actors, technical achievements, and films of 2013 and took place on March 2, 2014, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
The ceremony was scheduled one week later than usual to avoid conflict with the broadcast of the 2014 Winter Olympics. During the ceremony, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented awards in 24 categories.
