Tengrinews.kz — Many people have chat threads they avoid opening after a few hours of silence because there are simply too many unread messages. WhatsApp has proposed a solution to this problem: a new feature is expected to be added soon.
Details
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is testing a feature that will provide short summaries of unread chats, allowing users to catch up on conversations more quickly.
The feature is still under development and is currently being tested in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android. At the same time, the company is also working on bringing it to iOS.
The idea is simple: after a break, you open WhatsApp and see dozens of new messages in a chat. Instead of reading them one by one, you will be able to get a quick summary of the conversation right away.
“In a future update, WhatsApp will address this issue by introducing a new summarization feature. This feature will add a new entry point directly in the inbox containing unread messages. Here, users will be able to easily get a summary of all unread chats. If users tap this button, WhatsApp will generate a summary using Private Processing and present an overview of all unread conversations,” the publication says.
The summaries are expected to work through Meta AI while preserving privacy — neither WhatsApp nor Meta will have access to the messages.
When the feature will appear
According to WABetaInfo, the unread chat summary feature is still in development and will appear in one of the future updates. After testing is completed, it will first be rolled out to some beta users to make it easier to review unread messages without opening each chat separately.
