Tengrinews.kz - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was updated on the agricultural sector’s development over the first nine months of 2024, as the country achieved a record harvest.
According to the Minister of Agriculture, 98% of the harvest has been completed, with 25.2 million tons of grain collected, and an average yield of 15.5 quintals per hectare. Farmers also expect a record 1.2 million tons of sugar beets, along with a significant fodder crop harvest.
In response to the President’s directive, funding for sowing and harvesting operations has been increased. This year, 580 billion tenge has been allocated directly to farmers at a 5% interest rate without subsidies, three times the amount from last year. Minister Aidarbek Saparov noted that in 2025, the funding is expected to rise to 900 billion tenge, with 200 billion tenge designated for the preferential leasing of agricultural equipment. To enhance the efficiency of loans and reduce corruption risks, changes have been made to state support mechanisms.
The President was also informed of a 4.5% increase in meat production, totaling over 796,000 tons, and a 4.2% rise in milk production, reaching 2.8 million tons.
As part of the Comprehensive Processing Development Plan through 2028, efforts are being made to increase factory capacities and expand markets. The goal is to process 70% of products like milk, meat, sunflower seeds, rice, corn, and buckwheat.
Looking ahead to 2025, plans were presented to diversify crops by reducing water-intensive and monoculture crops while expanding high-yield priority crops.
Tokayev concluded the meeting by assigning tasks for further development of the agricultural sector and ensuring food security.
