Tengrinews.kz – A post on social media has sparked debate after suggesting that Astana International Airport introduced separate security screening lines exclusively for women. Tengrinews reached out to the airport to clarify the situation and also checked if similar practices exist in Almaty.

A Threads user claimed that Astana Airport had a “special security line designed only for women”, describing it as a convenient solution for long queues. The post quickly gained attention online.

What Astana Airport says

The airport’s press service dismissed the claim, stating that there are no dedicated lines exclusively for female passengers.

However, they stressed that, under aviation security regulations, screenings are always conducted by a staff member of the same gender as the passenger. Women are screened by female officers, and men by male officers.

In addition, the airport sometimes prioritizes women traveling with small children. They may be directed to a fast-track lane if it helps reduce waiting times, or through alternative entrances to ensure children’s safety.

“Women with small children go through security checks as a priority, outside the general queue,” the press service explained.

The airport emphasized that international security standards are strictly followed while also striving to provide comfortable conditions for all passengers.

Almaty Airport response

Almaty International Airport also confirmed that there are no separate security lines for women.

“All passengers — men and women — undergo screening at shared security lines in line with aviation safety regulations. If additional or manual checks are required, they are carried out with full confidentiality and always by a staff member of the same gender as the passenger,” the press service told Tengrinews.
