Tengrinews.kz - Under the guise of equipment, a large-scale smuggling attempt was made into Kazakhstan, according to the NSC press service.

The agency reported the interception of illegal tobacco imports. On January 15, the DPS of the NSC in the Zhambyl region, in cooperation with economic investigation authorities, police, and state revenue services, prevented the illegal import of a large batch of cigarettes.

"170,000 packs of tobacco products were attempted to be brought across the state border without accompanying documents, disguised as electrical equipment. Preliminary estimates place the value of the seized goods at over 50 million tenge. The detained cargo has been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation," the NSC statement reads.
