Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstanis will not have a day off on Constitution Day, August 30, this year. The information was confirmed by Vice Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population Viktoria Shegai.

"Will Kazakhstanis still have a day off on August 30 this year?" journalists asked the vice minister on the sidelines of the Mazhilis.

Viktoria Shegai responded that Constitution Day in Kazakhstan will now be celebrated on March 15.

"No (there will be no day off on the 30th — ed.). Because, as you know, once the new Constitution is adopted and comes into force, March 15 will become the official Constitution Day," the official said.

The new Constitution will come into force on July 1 this year. Even before the referendum and adoption of the new Constitution, the Minister of Justice was asked whether Kazakhstanis would celebrate Constitution Day "the old way" this year. At that time, Yerlan Sarsembayev stated that if a new official date for the public holiday is established by law, August 30 would lose its status as a public holiday from the moment the relevant law comes into force.

It is worth noting that the new Constitution Day in Kazakhstan is now considered to be March 15 — the day when citizens voted for its draft. Thus, there will be one fewer public holiday this year.
