Ministry of Emergency Situations Statement

According to the ministry's press service, the seismic station network of the National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research registered an earthquake on June 4 at 9:19 PM.

The epicenter was located 316 kilometers northeast of Almaty within the territory of Kazakhstan.

The epicenter coordinates were 44.547° N and 80.405° E, with a focal depth of 30 kilometers.

Estimated intensity on the MSK-64 scale was as follows:

  • Zharkent, Panfilov district, Zhetysu region — 4 points (53 km);

Department of Emergency Situations Data

According to the regional Department of Emergency Situations (DES), the earthquake was recorded in the Zhetysu region; no casualties or damage have been reported.

"The highest intensity was recorded in Zharkent, Panfilov district, at 4 points. In several other settlements, including Sarkand, Zhansugurov, Tekeli, and Karabulak, tremors were felt at up to 3 points. In Taldykorgan and other areas, the intensity was 2 points," the department stated.

Immediately following the report, Zhetysu region DES forces and equipment were placed on high alert. Emergency services received 30 calls from the public via the 101 and 112 hotlines.

Life-support facilities are operating normally. Specialists from Kazselezaschita and Kazvodkhoz are currently conducting inspections of hydraulic structures.

No reports of casualties or damage have been received at this time.
