Almaty residents report feeling tremors as quake hits Zhetysu Region: Emergency Ministry comments

Tengrinews.kz – An earthquake occurred in Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu Region. Some Almaty residents also reported on social media that they felt tremors in certain parts of the city. The Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) commented on the situation.

The MES seismic station network recorded an earthquake on February 5 at 13:42.

“The earthquake’s focus is located within Kazakhstan, 284 kilometers northeast of Almaty,” the agency said.

Users in Almaty posted online that they felt the earthquake, describing a light vibration and saying they were “slightly shaken”. Posts appeared across different platforms, including Threads.

However, Almaty’s city emergency situations department said no earthquake was recorded in Almaty and there were no tremors in the city.

At the same time, according to operational information from the Data Center of the Institute of Geophysical Research, an earthquake occurred on February 5, 2025 at 13:39, 60 kilometers east of Tekeli, with a magnitude of mb 5.0. The center said tremors were felt by some Almaty residents.
