Almaty prepares again for heavy rains

Tengrinews.kz — Public utilities in Almaty have been put on high alert due to expected heavy rains, citing the city akimat.

According to weather forecasts, precipitation is expected in Almaty on April 23 starting from 15:00, with intermittent heavy rain after 17:00 and wind gusts up to 15–18 meters per second.

Rain is also expected on April 24, in some areas heavy, with thunderstorms. On April 25, partly cloudy weather.

To prevent and promptly eliminate possible flooding, round-the-clock duty of city services has been organized. The following are involved in the work:

• 104 units of specialized equipment;
• 74 motor pumps;
• 12 sewage trucks, some of which are located in areas prone to flooding;
• 75 emergency teams, including 425 road workers;
• 2,300 sandbags have been prepared.

In addition, the Almaty city rescue service and emergency departments are on duty. In total, more than 2,700 road workers and over 1,200 units of equipment are deployed across the city daily.
