Tengrinews.kz – Relatives of crew members of an Embraer aircraft operated by Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), who died in the crash of the Baku–Grozny flight, have visited Aktau. The visit was timed to mark the anniversary of the tragic disaster, citing Media.az.
Among those who arrived in Aktau were relatives of Azerbaijan’s national heroes Hokuma Aliyeva, Igor Kshnyakin and Alexander Kalyaninov, as well as family members of several passengers who were killed.
The visit was organized by the Azerbaijani consulate in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL).
“Our pain will only subside when those responsible receive the punishment they deserve. I would also like to express my gratitude to our compatriots living in Kazakhstan for the support they have shown,” said Joshgun Nasibli, the brother of Hokuma Aliyeva.
Context
On December 25, 2024, an aircraft accident involving an Embraer plane of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) occurred three kilometers from Aktau airport. The aircraft, operating the Baku–Grozny flight, crashed while attempting an emergency landing.
According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, there were 62 passengers and five crew members on board, including 42 citizens of Azerbaijan, 16 citizens of Russia, six citizens of Kazakhstan and three citizens of Kyrgyzstan.
As Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev recently reported, Kazakhstan is preparing to complete the investigation into the plane crash.
On February 4, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport published a report with preliminary findings of the investigation into the AZAL aircraft crash. The document includes photographs showing damage to the aircraft, which was destroyed and partially burned. One of the images presents a reconstruction of the flight after the emergency situation arose.
The preliminary report also published a fragment of air traffic controllers’ communications during the announcement of the “Carpet” plan.
