Anti-nuclear forum to be held in Astana

Anti-nuclear forum will be held in Astana, Tengrinews.kz reports citing press-service of the Majilis (Lower Chamber of the Parliament). The first meeting of the steering commission of the forum was held on May 7. The forum is scheduled for August 29. “International conference From Nuclear Tests Ban to Nuclear Weapons Free World will become a part of implementation of the Astana Declaration on ther Nuclear Free World and will be timed to the 21st anniversary of closure of Semipalatinsk nuclear test site. The conference was initiated by theMajilis, Nazarbayev Center and international association of Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament, a global network of parliamentarians from over 80 countries,” Majilis press-service states. The conference will cover global security, nuclear terrorism, use of tough sanctions against aggressors, development of peaceful atomic energy. The conference will include a trip to the territory of Semipalatinsk test site. The conference will result in adoption of the statement of its participants in support of Kazakhstan President’s initiatives on nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament, Majilis press-service writes. “Over 80 foreign delegations have already confirmed their participation in Astana international conference From Nuclear Tests Ban to Nuclear Weapons Free World,” Majilis press-service states.
