South Kazakhstan threatened by Moroccan locust

Moroccan locust is attacking four villages in Saryagash region of South Kazakhstan oblast, Tengrinews.kz reports. Swarms of locust are grazing on vegetation leaving only bare stumps behnid. The locust will start to fly in a couple of days and then any insecticides will be useless. The residents of Saryagash are concerned that their cattle may lack grass to eat, because of the locust that can destroy everything that has been planted. People are sure that disinfectant teams with insecticides are late. However the Territorial Inspection, region's authorities charged with inspecting and saving the crops in South Kazakhstan, insist that works to save the region from the locust are in full blast. Starting from April 18, 186 people have been fighting with the insects, they say. The operation even involves ultralight airplanes spaying the fields. 29 thousand hectares of land have already been disinfected. The Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan has provided anti-locust insecticides enough for 135 thousand hectares of land for the Oblast.
